Message Look hard for that original.

But your heads are not garbage IMO. Just not ideal. That's all.

Go through all your extra brackets from the other head until you find one that works. Some might not, but my guess is you will find one that is close enough and will do the job for you without putting you at any real risk since you do have all the other ones for that particular cam and they are proper. Assuming this is not an end bracket where you only have 4 similar, but the other bracket where you have many to select from.

Been there, done that. You can't start swapping entire lines because yeah, you'll tighten them down to spec and find you can't even rotate the cam - even sans lifters !! So, just go through what you've got (assuming that other set of heads is now garbage and the journals can be considered spares)

I wouldn't recommend this if you needed an entire line. But you've got 4 of 5 that are proper and correct. IMO, if you can find one that is very close, and tightens nicely without the cam being too loose or too tight, you'll survive. I definitely wouldn't buy a new set of heads before you tried swapping all your available substitutes.

But yeah, they are line bored from the factory and so they are all slightly different from the get go and they don't necessarily work in other positions other than their original. And they don't necessarily (usually will NOT) just work with any other head other than their original. But they can be close. Very close.

Of course, if you are rich, feel free to buy a new set of heads. :-)

You can use FSM EM-27 as a guide to measure and calculate out which journals are closest to spec and/or closest to your cam. It shows you how to measure them all. Now keep in mind, just because they measure perfectly doesn't mean they'll work because of how they are originally manufactured. But if you can find one that's close, and when it is torqued it still allows that cam to spin freely, I'd not hesitate too much to using it as your replacement.

I would torque them down to spec without the lifters. The reason being that one wrong cam journal - if it doesn't fit - WILL prevent the cam from rotating freely. When the lifters are not in place, and the cam journals are tightened properly, the cam shaft should spin very easily without needing the cam gear on to leverage it to rotate. If it does not spin freely, the spare journal you've tried isn't working properly or things are not torqued properly. It should of course spin freely with your 4 known goods only. So add the extras that measured out well and see how it rotates.

Hopefully some of that helps. But I wouldn't even consider tossing those heads yet. :-)
